Meet Benjamin a bath toy who can help you shed pounds
How do you stay trim? Do bath toys play a part in your healthy eating regime? Let me introduce you to our bath toy and dieting aid, Benjamin. Our kids are teenagers, so none of us is playing with him in the suds – however fetching he looks in his shorts and goggles. Benjamin has a higher mission. He is helping us adults lose our middle-aged spread. How? It started at an all inclusive buffet in a hotel in Tenerife, Spain, this summer. The temptation was too much. Each breakfast time we were eating islands of scrambled eggs floating in seas of baked beans, followed by croissants curled up like sleeping kittens and popped into ours mouths one after the other. Washed down by espressos standing up with sugar.
But confronted by the hotel mirrors in our swimming costumes it was clear that the gorging had to stop. Our bellies were escaping over the tops of our shorts and lined each night with tram track marks as we took our clothes off and compared bulges. We first spied Benjamin at a newsagents around the corner from our hotel. For 3 euros he joined us on our family holiday simply because he looked so cute. We all fell in love with him.
Once in the room we realised that Benjamin had a raspy squeal. It was unignorable. And as he accompanied us to dinner that night (still in his shorts despite the hotel’s request that all dinners wear long trousers of an evening) one of us grabbed him, waved him at the other and let him oink his oink as if to say “You’ve had one portion, you need no more food”.
He kept us away from the all-inclusive buffet. Anyone looking over longingly at the chips or the lasagne was oinked. We’re not sure what the other diners thought. But Benjamin survived the journey home and now sits in our kitchen. If anyone goes up for a second portion or a second slice of cake, Benjamin is grabbed, pointed at the glutton and oinked. He has the final say in all eating decisions. So far we’ve lot about 10 pounds between us.
