My son thinks I’m mad – I worked in McDonald’s for £1.25 an hour and the local bakers for even less as well as Woolworth’s. Am trying to persuade him to get used to working but he’s too posh. I worked on the music counter at Woolies and used to play Stevie Wonder songs just to wind up the girls who loved Gary Numan. But it was a good experience, although I have to admit being rubbish in all of these roles and making constant mistakes.
My first Saturday job was in WHSmith, sorting out books and working on the till etc. I only started as a Christmas temp and spent my first lot of wages on a load of singles. I was so happy when I bought them with my own money! 😆 I also made mistakes when I was serving though and didn’t get a couple of customers to sign their credit card slips  I wasn’t asked back after Christmas – I wonder why 😳
I’m hoping that after the exams in the Summer, my 16 year old will get off his bum and look for some work! 😉
