Have you read The Husband’s Secret by Liane Moriarty? Without any spoilers, it’s the unputadownable tale of three families woven around the same secret.
A road accident and the strangling of a teenager take the characters into a place where secrets abound, but only one really matters.
Set in Melbourne and Sydney, Australia, you’ll like the characters. I recognised the ‘eager’ mum, always on every committee, always perfectly turned out with shiny kids and an adoring hsuband. (And that’s certainly not self recognition, by the way).
I saw the woman who was ballsing up her marriage without realising it. Her cousin at the center of her life, controlling it.
I felt for the mother whose kid died. Her story is the one that will make you want to stop your older children leaving the house. Ever.
This is definitely worth a read. I suspect literary critics would steer away from The Husband’s Secret with a sneer. But Mums, Moms and Dads everywhere should be turning its pages and asking: What secrets define me and where might they lead?
