Times article on survey of young girls on dieting and cutting meals

“One in five girls aged14-15 skip lunch and more than a third of girls aged 10-11 say they would like to lose weight, rising to nearly two thirds of those between 14and 15.. 17%do not eat breakfast, 19%have no lunch” from an article in the Times, following a survey by the Schools Health Education Unit.

These statistics are quite shocking and part of my work is going into schools to give workshops on healthy eating and why dieting doesn’t work and can often lead to later weight gain and a lifelong battle with obesity. Dieting can also be the precursor to an eating disorder.

Maintaining good blood sugar by eating 3meals and 2 healthy snacks per day fuels our bodies and our brains. We make better decisions and can think and concentrate well. We need to educate our children to eat well.
